Volunteer your creative skills in 2019!

A professional logo and website are basic needs for an organization. The problem is, small non-profit organizations typically don’t have the resources to hire studios and agencies to create effective branding and marketing materials.
Enter: Visible. We’re a non-profit organization that connects creative professionals with organizations in need of creative work.

Our volunteers donate their time and skills - we provide the processes, contracts, structure, and support to make sure each project is completed successfully.

Q1 projects start on January 7th. Learn more and sign up at the link in our bio.

Have you heard? Q1 open projects are live!
Make your 2019 resolution count by donating your skills to make a difference. Visible project timelines span 12 weeks so you know your time commitment from the start. Along the way, our team has your back with support and resources like contracts, timelines, and weekly check-ins to lead your project to success. 🙌 Everything you need to know about the process and what to expect is outlined in our brand new Project Cohort Handbook which you can find on our projects page. While you're there, check out some of the amazing Q4 projects that just wrapped up on our featured work page!

So, what are you waiting for? Check out our open Q1 projects via the link in our bio, and reserve your project by scheduling a project briefing call with our team on or before Jan 4th!

Have you ever been put in the position of tolerating insensitivity in the name of being a "team player"? Have you even been told you were being "too sensitive" when you spoke up?

Respect. What does it mean to us?
Visible is creating a guide for avoiding common microaggressions at design studios and creative agencies, and we need your help. What do you wish colleagues and leaders in the creative industry knew to avoid? What kinds of experiences do you regularly encounter that you wish weren't a part of doing your job? What have you witnessed that just didn't feel right?

Help us build a resource for design community. Share your story with us and pass this call on to your colleagues, coworkers, creative directors, or anyone working in design that might have an experience to share. Link in bio.
Hey everyone! Maia here for my last post of my Instagram takeover :) I realized I haven't shared any of my own work with you all, so here's some Christmas cards I'll have available for sale at the @psugd PSU graphic design department pop up @psugoodmarket Good Market this weekend at @landpdx! I post more of my creative endevours at @thatpleiad :) THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to the team at @visiblealliance for lending me their platform and believing in the importance of uplifting others. Thank you to everyone who listened to and read my ideas this week, and those who reached out via comment or message to share their thoughts and love. This was a pretty freaking awesome and empowering experience, and I feel so grateful 🌟😊 here's me passing the virtual torch to the next fabulous Instagram takeover-er, whoever they may be! 👨🏻‍💻💗🔥
Hey! Maia here, signing on for day 4 of my Instagram takeover. Today I'd like to share a book recommendation with you! I'm currently reading The Politics of Design, a collection of brief essays authored by Ruben Pater and about a dozen other contributors. The central argument of the book is that all design is political. You cannot separate a design from the ideology it was created under, whether intentional or not. We all have a unique set of values, perspectives and biases which contribute to our creative voice. Because of this, no design can be considered truly objective or universal. By acknowledging this, we can work to avoid reinforcing harmful power dynamics in our work and life. In the stories, I elaborated a bit more on these topics (forgive me for the awkwardness, I feel much more articulate through writing than speaking!) and gave some examples of cultural biases that are often wrongly considered neutral or objective (whiteness, the English language). I'm really interested in hearing what you have to say about these ideas, especially because of the nature of this conversation is all about communication, power and privilege. Thanks again for tuning in!
Maia here! For day two of my Instagram takeover, I want to discuss some of the opportunities I see for designers to have a positive impact on the lives of trans people. Language is often a significant part of our work. Being reflective about the words we use, and being careful not to reinforce harmful myths (for example, that gender is your body) is hugely important. Check out my story today (pinned to the Visible page!) to hear some more examples. As designers, we also have a unique opportunity to reduce some of the harm of institutional forces. Many trans people are misrepresented (or unable to be truthfully represented) by their identity documents, which can be a barrier to accessing healthcare, housing and employment. If you are involved with the process of designing documents like applications and other forms, ask yourself if it is necessary to survey legal sex and legal name. Wherever possible, omit these boxes and make space for people to let you know how they would like to be called (name, pronouns, gendered words), even if those things aren't congruent with identity documents or administrative databases. These two things can make a huge impact on the way that trans people are able to move through the world and access institutions. In today's story, you can hear me elaborate on quote above, as well as the book it is from—Normal Life by Dean Spade. Thank you for tuning in and being engaged! I'd love to chat more if you have any questions, comments or thoughts. I appreciate you all so much 💗😊
We’re kicking off our takeover series with Maia Buzbee, @thatpleiad. You may know Maia as a talented 3rd level design student at PSU, and Trans and non-binary advocate. We’re excited to have Maia takeover our feed tomorrow to kick off our year long takeover series! Make sure to tune in and learn how they are turning worldview into action through design.

Do you want to see a more equitable future for design, who it includes, and who it serves? Do you believe that the future of design leadership will be diverse in gender, race, size, age, class, and status? Are you ready to hear new voices and ideas that push the definition of design for good forward? What is the future of design you want to see? Let’s create it together.

Tune in starting next week for a year of conversation, ideas, inspiration, and critique as we invite members of the Visible community to participate in a series of week-long IG takeovers to explore the topic of how design can turn worldviews into action, and in the process, shape the future of design.
